- Running for the NPF at the NYC Marathon!
- Ashley McFadin
On November 5th, five of our runners will be pounding the pavement for the National Pancreas Foundation (NPF) and running through the five boroughs in the largest marathon in the world - New York City! They will be raising much-needed funds for research for the NPF, the only foundation dedicated to all forms of pancreas disease. Who are they? Thank you for asking!
• Micki: Is from Northern VA, just outside of DC, is running in memory of her Dad and her brother who fearlessly battled pancreatic cancer. "I can think of no greater motivation to run a marathon than to do it for my family and all the others who have lost loved ones due to Pancreatic diseases. Running MCM in 2019 through NPF was an honor, and it would fulfill a huge dream to run through the streets of NY and raise money for a cure."
• Christie: Lives is Columbus, OH, and is a pediatric pancreatitis RN at Nationwide Children’s Hospital! "As a pediatric nurse practitioner who cares for children with pancreatitis and pancreatic disease, I am grateful for the support of the NPF to me as a healthcare provider and to my patients and their families."
• Ashley: Is studying at the University of Arkansas and is running in honor of her brother Trey who suffers from chronic pancreatitis. "I was apart of the NPF marathon charity team in 2018 and it changed my family's life! Knowing I can raise money and awareness to help people like my brother is a very fulfilling experience."
• Taylor: Is a pancreatic surgeon at the University of Arizona in Tucson where she cares for patients with pancreatic cancer and acute/chronic pancreatitis every day. Taylor also was recently diagnosed with cancer (lung cancer, now recurrent); this has helped her understand even more what her pancreatic cancer patients are facing. “This race will help me to build my own mental and physical strength as I deal with cancer as well as helping the past, current, and future patients to whom I have devoted my career.”
• Stephanie: Is a thoracic surgeon at the U of AZ and a good friend/running buddy of Taylor (amazing way to support!) “Both pancreatic and lung cancer are deadly cancers that need more research and funding to hopefully find better treatments and ultimately a way to improve long term quality/quality of life for those patients diagnosed with cancer.”
To help them get there, please donate what you can, any amount helps! Thank you!
Since 1997, the National Pancreas Foundation has provided hope for those suffering from pancreatitis and pancreatic cancer through funding cutting-edge research, advocating for new and better therapies, and providing support and education for patients, caregivers, and health care professionals.
